Teaching and Research at Cavendish

Teaching

We are proud to be a teaching practice. This means that we have Specialist Trainees (STs) and Foundation Doctors (F2s) working in our team. All are fully qualified doctors. The ST doctors are training to become GPs and the F2 doctors are doing more general training in the second year after qualification as doctors.

We also sometimes have medical students sitting in on consultations as part of their educational process. Your support in this is very much appreciated. We always ask your consent for this, and if you prefer the student not to be present your care will in no way be affected. Our medical students come from UCH, Imperial and Barts medical schools.

Research

We are pleased to work with Central London Healthcare Research Team. This is the primary care research team for central London which manages and develops this service on behalf of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).

The NIHR is the nation’s largest health and care research funder and provides the people, facilities and technology that enable research to thrive. It works in partnership with the NHS, universities, local government, other research funders (including industry and charities), patients and the public to improve the health and wealth of the nation.

If you are a patient registered within a Central London GP Practice, and are interested in participating in research, please click here for information about active research projects.

OpenSAFELY

OpenSAFELY is software that researchers use to study health information. Developed by the University of Oxford and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine for COVID-19, it is now being used to support wider research.

From July 2025, all GP practices in England using SystmOne (TPP - which is our software programme for notes)  are required to enable NHS England-approved researchers to use coded information (such as diagnoses, prescriptions and test results), joined to other health information, for important studies beyond COVID-19.
This pilot, the NHS OpenSAFELY Data Analytics Service, runs until March 2027. NHS
England is responsible for the data.
