Talking Therapies/Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT)

Westminster Talking Therapies

Free, confidential NHS service which provides psychological treatment for depression and anxiety disorders.

Talking Therapies and counselling services are suitable for people with problems which have arisen fairly recently. Feelings of low mood, anxiety, particular fears or problems coping with daily life and relationships, are all suitable for brief, focused, talking therapies.

People seeking help with difficulties other than depression or anxiety, or whose difficulties require more specialist or intensive treatment which cannot be provided in a primary care setting, can be directed to the appropriate specialist or secondary care mental health services.

Pregnant Women and New Parents

IAPT can provide to pregnant women and new parents who may be experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, such as depression and anxiety. The information sheet has been designed for women who are pregnant or new parents who have a baby under the age of one.

Perinatal mental health problems are common and affect up to 20% of women during the perinatal period. The information sheet includes details of the types of talking therapy provided by IAPT, information about how women and new parents can self-refer themselves and contact details for all London IAPT services.

Our maternity and obstetrics service provides care for women and babies throughout pregnancy, labour, and the postnatal period, usually through about 10 days after birth.

Antenatal care is the right care you get from health professionals during your pregnancy. You will be offered appointments with a midwife, or sometimes a doctor who specialises in pregnancy and birth. You should start your antenatal care as soon as possible once you know you are pregnant. You can see a physiotherapist who can go on and organise all appropriate test and scans with specialist follow up if need be.
